NGAIO AFFAIRS
A meeting of the Ngaio Progressive Association, was held last evening, Mr. H. H. Cmnmings presiding. The secretary stated that the system'of calling the Fire Brigade in the district was not satisfactory. The foreman of;the local volunteer brigade, on receiving a call from the central station, had:to ring up each member of the brigade. lv answer to a/question, he said that the siren sometimes heard was installed on the car, and was not for the purpose of calling the men.' ■• . ■ •It was decided to write to,the Fire Board requesting, the installation of; a fire alarm system direct to Khandallah, so that all the brigadesmen could be called at once.
It was, stated that. a deputation from Ngaio, Khaudallah, and Johnsonville was to wait upon the General Manager^ of Railways (Mr. H. H. Sterling) to-day, in ■order to make representations concerning curtailments which have, recently been made in the, Wellington-Johnsonville service, and also to consider the proposed electrification of the line.
