TO MEET EMERGENCIES
QUESTION OF TARIFF
LONDON, SOtli .September.. It is stated that the Cabinet Ministers at present are considering the idea of appealing to the country as a National Government without any programme, and to ask for a free hand to, deal with the crisis, neither specifying nor excluding any particular measure. This would involve the Conservatives i sacrificing their plan of fighting an elec- | tion on a full tariff issue. !On the other hand, it implies that | the Liberals would accept a tariff if this, were found necessary to ' meet special circumstances. It is believed that the Conservative leaders arc willing to _ agree to a manifesto on tlio widest lines. The executive of the Labour Party has decided tfiafc all members supporting the National Government; automat-
ically will cease to be members of the party. Thus Mr. Kamsay Mac Donald, Mr. Philip Snowden, Mr. J. H. Thomas, Sir William Jowitt, and ten members of Parliament are expelled.
