ESPERANTO CLUB.

The weekly meeting of .the Wellington Esperanto Club took place, on' Tuesday night in the Y:M:C.A., Mr.-E.:|.C.'.Jack presiding. The -secretary announc&d the death-of William Cornish, V pioneer of the; Esperanto movement, in New: Zealand. Mr. Cornish, he .said, had -rendered signal service to the cause of Esperanto and had been, actively associated, with the establishment of' the.firsti Esperanto Club in Wellington in the early years of the present' century. As1 a mark of respect the members stdod' in silenpe. A weilcome was extended 'to Mr.. Howard Franks, secretary ■ of', the , Masterton .Esperanto Group, who fluently addressed the ; members in Esperanto.- Tuition classes.were organised • under the guidance .'of experienced memhers,-after which a short programme was presented. Miss G.'Oarty gave an original translation into Esperanto entitled "ta! His'torio de Sud-Afrika Urbo," which, was followed with keen interest. * Mr. Vernon ' Leek contributed an original composition in Esperant on "Kun Zane Grey en- la, Suda Maro," the presentation of . which ■ proved exceedingly diverting. Mr. Joseph Major brought the programme to a close with.a lecture on "La .', Orstandardo," a question of I economies', which was warmly applauded.
