WORKERS THANKED

The soup kitchen on the Town Belt relief works at Hataitai closed down' yestorday after five months' operations. During this period over 25,-000 meals, consisting of soup, meat jpies, etc., haver been given to lelief workers; in addition supplies of soup have bco.n issued to needy cliscs in the district.

The work has boon organised and financed by the Hataitai branch! of th« Leaguo of Mothers,- but it would, not have l)eoti possible but for tho generosity of the following: Dtmhutd Bakery; (for concciisiori in tho price charged far bread), A. and T. Burt, Ltd. (loan of thre.. coppers), A. 13.' Preston, ■ Ltd., Messrs. Mipp, Miles, Parker, Hod and Co., and the Bond Street Butchery (supplies "of meat and bones), Co-operative Dairy Producers Freezing Cq., , Ltd. (free storage), Misses Pranke'rd, K»inui Confectionery (meat , pies,,, etc.)» Miss Hansen (bread, etc.), J. H. ©oldsworthy (free carting), and the Children o* tho Kilbirnio School' (supplier, of vegetables). , , , , During the Junch howi* ye«fcerday opportunity was taken by the- relief workers' to express their' appreciation of the kindness and generosity of the ladies who throughout tho „ winter months had not only provided nourishment for tho men folk, but. had also assisted many families in their homes. On behalf of the League of Mothers, the president (Mrs. Mostou) stated that although it had been decided to close down tho soup kitchen, it was intended to carry on with tho work of assisting any cases of distress.'
