TLe request of the Petpne Benevolent Committee to the Petonbßorough Council for another grant of money to en-1 able it to' carry On tho w6rk of reliev- : ing distress in the borough. has been i declined by the Finance.Committee of the council, according to a letter received by the Benevolent Committee atits meeting this afternoon. It was point-1 ed out by the Finance Committee that the council had legal power to incur unauthorised expenditure up to only £250 this year, and that £212 of this had already been spent, £200 being •in'the form of a previous grant to the Benevolent Committee.
