OBJECTION TO VALUATION

THE COURT'S FINDINGS

■ Tho Assessment Cqurt—Messrs. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M[. (president), H. E. Leighton (Government assessor), and Or. Halliday (local bodies' assessor)— announced its decisions yesterday afternoon with regard to objections to valuations on properties in the city. The objections were heard jit a sitting of the Court on Monday, and yesterday morning an inspection was made of the various properties. In five cases the valuations were sustained, and in the remaining three reductions were allowed. The first objection was in respect of a property on Lambton quay on which is a wooden building containing four shops, and owned by the City Development Company (director, Mr. T. B. Dwan). The property had been assessed as follows:—Capital value, £26,000; unimproved value, £.25,000; improvements, £1000. The Court fixed the amounts yesterday at £23.985, £22,983. and £1000. The assessments of values on the Albion Hotel, Courtenay place, and the Columbia Private Hotel, Cuba street, were sustained. These aro respectively: ■ —Capital value £22,400, unimproved value £19,400, improvements £3000, and £21,950, £11,350, and £10,600. A reduction was made in ■respect of Messrs. P. H. and S. G. Nathan's property in Willis street, known as Fletcher's Building. Tho property had been assessed as follows :~Capital value, £40,000; unimproved value, £19,500; improvements, £20,500. These figures were reduced to £39,500, £19,000, and £20,500 respectively. Another property in Willis street, known as Singer's Building, with another small property nearby, owned by Mr. S. Or. Nathan, had been assessed as follows:—Capital value, £19,000; unimproved value, £13,500; improvements, £5500. The Court's, assessments were £ 17,500; £12,000, and £5500. Assessments were sustained in the case of three properties in the marriage settlement estate of Mr. E. G. Jellicoe, administered by the Public Trustee. The properties are in Cambridge terrace and Kent terrace. a
