AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

At Chicago iPrancis Ouimet won the National Amateur Golf championship, defeating Jack Westland 6 and 5 in the final 36 holes. He had previously won the championship in 1914. Bobby Jones was an interested onlooker at to-day's contest, but did not participate.
Francis Ouimet made history one day in 1913 when he, was only .20 years old. He won the American Open in a play-off after a tie with Edward Bay and Harry Vardon, then two great names of golf. He is one of the most consistent of American amateurs, having won the championship previously in 1914, been runner-up in 1920, and a semi-finalist in 1923, 1924, 1926, and 1927. He was a semi-iinalist in the British Amateur in 1923 and lias represented America against Britain on seven occasions.
