PRIZE FUND MUCH LESS
LOST CHARM OF NOVELTY
(Eeceived 11th May, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 10th May. Though a rush is anticipated before the closing on 23rd May of the Irish Derby Sweep, the prize fund, at present about £600,000, is likely to be far short of the Grand National total of £1,182,415. • . . '■■
A committeemah, in an interview, said that he does not attribute the drop to smaller prizes. He points out that the Irish Sweep no longer possesses the charm of novelty. The Calcutta Sweep this year is the lowest for fifteen years.
