ANNUAL CONGRESS
from all over the southern portion .of the North Island, including many from.Taranaki and Hawkes Bay, and the . Nekon and Marlborough districts as well, are at present in Wellington attending one of the four annual congresses that the Salvation Army has instituted in place of the one big annual congress. _An inforjnal reception was held in the Citadel, Vivian street, yesterday afternoon. Commissioner J. Cunningham, in a short speech of welcome, said he hoped the congress would be a complete success. Among those present -were Colonel L. Taylor and members of the National Headquarters Staff. A' special conference tea was later held in the schoolroom of the Vivian Street Baptist Church. The visiting delegates, were welcomed by Lieutenant-Col-onel Rurton, Brigadier Macauley, and Adjutant Green. Adjutant Fraser, of Feilding, and Ensign Hutchings, of Raetihi, replied. • | In the evening a united open-air meeting was held in Post Office Square. The Wellington City, Wellington South, and Cadet Bands were present. At the conclusion of the meeting those present marched by three different routes to the Citadel, where a meeting of general confession and prayer was conducted by Commissioner Cunningham. Commissioner Cunningham read a manifesto setting forth the presentday needs of the Dominion, and an urgent call to prayer and work. Brigadier Walls, National Young People's Secretary, and Staff-Captain Hayes, Divisional Commander for Wellington, delivered stirring addresses. The meeting concluded by all pledging to devote fifteen minutes a day to special prayer.
