EXIT FULL FEATHER
RETIREMENT REPORTED
'■'Full.. Feather is reported from Kiccar-j ton to be" spelling at present, having been oti the easy list since the Canterbury Jockey Club's Easter Meeting, and it is.practically certain .that his racing career' is at, an end. .. . '.-;.- | Full Feather's, record was a strange mixture of good ami bad perlonnunccsj with the latter predominating. He had a scratchy style in his slow puces, and iv his races he was very slow' out of the barrier, usually tailing the field in tho early stages. (Sometimes he remained there throughout the journey, but on, other occasions ho would unwind ;iu exceptionally brilliant finishing run to score au unux-
pected victory from what looked like an impossible position. Ho appeared to require racing to bring him to his best, and nhn'ost from the start of his career he developed the trait of improving us a meeting progressed. Tliis was a family characteristic, to tho. extent, at any rate, that it was shown by Centrepiece, his elder half-brother. Full Feather registered, some of Jus best performances iv mile races at Trentham and Kiccarton. Ue was. bred by the late Sir George Clifford, and. carried the blue and gold chequers throughout his career. He is by Autunums from Equipment, by Martian from To-morrow, by Bill of Portland from Klusive, by Trenton, so that he combines some great racing strains, and he sliould make strong appeal as v sire. Tho career of Battle Colours, a seven-year-old gelding by Solferiuo from Satisfaction, by Bezonian from Satisfaire, came to an end recently. He was a usetul performer in the colours of the Eiccarton owner-trainer, E. Campbell, for whom he won some good races. Eventually, however, leg troubles necessitated a lengthy spell, and as ho continued to show, evidence ■ of iiusoundncss when tried out on a couple of occasions on the training track it was decided to destroy him.
