FRANCE AND ITALY

AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE

THE MISSION AT KOME

(British Official Wireless.) (Received 2nd March, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 28th February. Signor Jlussoliiit last night attended dinner at the British Embassy at Rome in honour of the British Ministers who are conducting the naval negotiations. The Foreign Secretary, Mr. Henderson, andytlio Duco afterwards had a long conversation. The discussions were resumed to-day between Mr. Henderson and Signor Grandi as well as between the naval experts. So far complete secrecy had been maintained about tho conversations, due to the delicacy of their nature and : the necessity of informing and consulting the United States and Japanese Governments on any developments. Before the British Ministers left Borne this evening an announcement was made regarding the agreement .reached in principle on the questions left outstanding from the London Naval Conference. The terms of the I proposed agreement are'still to be sub-1 mitted to the French Government; and Messrs. Henderson and Alexander are now proceeding to Paris for this purpose. Should the French Government agree, the proposals will then be submitted to the United States, Japan, and the British Dominions, who were represented at the London Naval Conference. '
