NOTES ON THE RACING

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

CimiSTCHURGII, 28th February. The New .Brighton Trotting Club's Electing provided some very interesting sport to-day. The weather was fine and there was a fair attendance, while fields were large, The totalisalor figures were £19,185, compared with £23,791 at the Autumn Meeting last year, when the club raced in March. W. J. Tomkinson is having a good nm at present, and he added another success to his list when Biddy Parrisli won tho Improvers' Handicap. Biddy Parrish, who is by Guy Punish from the useful trotter. Rose Peters, has always had plenty of speed, but she could not control it in' a race. She is ouly five years old, so that further improvement may be expected,-especially as she is now trotting more solidly with; the coloiirs up. Duco, who rt,n! second to Jiiday, .fairish in the Improvers'- Handicap, occupied a similar position behind 'Kilbirnie Dan at the previous New Brighton Meeting. He owed his place at the finish to his comparatively solid trotting, and, as on the previous occasion, he paid a good dividend. . ..... The racing at the Kaikoura Meeting evidently improved Dusolina, as in the Belfast Handicap she was always prominent and fought out the final pinch in good style. Dusolina is a quality looking mare by Drusus, from Doraldina, the dam ot Daphne de Oro, and she may race well later over two miles. In her latest effort she won by the narrowest margin from Dollar King, a Drusiis gelding from Dotiard's dam. Dollar King is likely to develop into a really .good horse. He and Dusolina, though trained in different stables, are both owned by Mr. J. Westerman, who has been breeding horses tor many years. It was an unusual experience to see an owner provide two horses to fight out such a finish. At the last meeting o£ the-/Wellington Trotting Club Rollo won the February Handicap,.beating Colonial Boy. In the Denton Memorial Handicap he did not go away well, but he secured a position, though until half a mile from Lome he was not very prominent. From this point he came on well and outstayed the opposition, winning easily. Rollo is by Jingle, who has not sired many^ good pacers, though he was a useful performer, lvollo looks like making further improvement, and he may make a good two miler. later on, as he is only five years old. ' Kelp added■another placed performance to hig long list, when he ran second to 80110 in the Denton Memorial Handicap. The Wrack pacer showed a fine turn of speed in the final quarter of a mile, but he had bo chance with the winner. Kelp has worked himself back to a tight mark through a succession oE seconds and thirds, without winning much money. Ho has never looked better than he does at present."1'1' :: '"■"■' '" ' " '':-' '" ~ '~ Location, who won the Eclipse Handicap, is a sister to Key Logan. She hasshown a good deal of promise in her races, and though she may never reach tlie best class over four miles she will always be dangerous over shorter courses. She 'gave H. Frost his second win of the day, a result that was popular, as Frost has not had much luck lately. Belle Lorrimer, after 'a poor performance earlier in the day, paced a sound race in the Eclipse Handicap. She was in the picture all the way, and though easily beaten by Location, she paced on solidly to get second money. I Maurice Dillon, the winner of the Dash Handicap, is a five-year-old by Author Dillon from Maura, the dam of St. Maura. Maurice Dillon has not done much racing and he may go onto better things, as he appears to be quite sound after a spell. The English pacer, Major Lind, looks like being a useful sort over sprint courses. He finished very solidly in the Dash Handicap, though he had no chance with the winner. St. Petrox led from start to finish in the Autumn Handicap. He is a useful trotter who has no great dash but he is very solid and a good stayer. Provided he is not asked to go too fast over the first mile,- St. Petrox keeps going at his even gait, but if he is forced early he frequently goes to a break. He was not troubled in this race, as he took the lead early. Repute was his nearest attendant early,'and when she broke half a mile from home, St. Petrox was steadied before the others could catch him, with the result that he outstayed Fifa and New Metford over the last two furlongs. Fifa trotted another solid race when she finished second to St. Petrox in the Autumn Handicap. The New Brighton trained.mare is at the top of her form at present, and. she is gradually improving in stamina. , . , Playwave , won the Wainom Handicap and paid a sensational dividend, as she was one of the outsiders of the field. She was in a good position at the end of half a mile and she stayed out the final stages belter than any of her rivals. She is an aged mare by Waverley, a Galindo — 'Thclma horse, who did most of his raciug in Auckland, and then wont to Southland, where he has sired a few useful pacers. Sunny Bob put lip a good performance when he finished second in tho Wainom Handicap. lie was always with the leading division and he stayed on well. Like the winner, he was bred in Southland. Kate Logan had nn eapy win in the Electric Handicap, tbe mile saddle event, When the field came into the straight Wild Voyage was about three lengths in front of Kate Logan, but the leader fell, leaving Kate Logan with Na decided advantage, which sho held to the finish. She has been a good stake earner for the New Brighton trainer, J. N. Clarke. Though nor agood stayer, she has a valuable asset of being a smart, beginner'and up to a mile and a hilf she is very, useful. Maearanda owed his position in second place in the Electric Handicap to the accident in the straight, as there were several horses in front of him when tho mishap occurred. When Wild "Voyage fell just after reaching the straight, when leading in the Electric -Handicap, he brought down Great Triumph, Happy Land, and Our Bird, while Krina was pulled up. H. Marshall, the rider of Happy Land, broke one of his toes. Results: — Improvers' Handicap, of 105 soys (trottors only), 3.50 class; one mile and a.V. half. —2 Biddy Parish, 48yds behind (W. J.
