ON AWAPUNI TRACKS

BLUE PAPER'S FINE EFFORT

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. . Conditions ivere excellent for traininj operations at Awapuni on Saturday, the plough being in first-class order. The grass proper was also in use. Wallarnh (Wilkinson), Infusion . (W. Broughton), and Pythia (Reed) were partners over six furlongs on the grass. They ran the first three furlongs m 40sec and the full distance in lmin -24 l-ssec, Wallarun having a slight advantage. Trojan Melody (W. Broughton) _ and Acco (Reed) left five furlongs behind in lmiti C 3-ssec; after running the first two iv 2G l-ssec.' Although it was his first, gallop for sonic little time, Trojan Melody was in front at the finish. ' Mister Gamp (F Gordon) and Skynder (Metcalf) jumped away from the mile post to leave the last seven furlongs behind in lmin 39sec. Mister Gamp set the pace, and, despite the disparity in poundage, lie had the mare doing her best throughout. Ho should be in good order when the Wellington Meeting comes round. Lordlike (M'Dowell), who is temporarily quartered here, jumped away at the six furlongs post to pick up Prime Moutoa a furlong later. They were together, at the distance, but Lordlike drew clear m the run down, the straight to complete his task in lmin 20 4-ssec, the first three furlongs having been left' behind in 39 l-ssec. ' ' . Pahu (Reed), unaccompanied, ran a mile in 53sec. He is due to make a reappearance at the local meeting, but with TI. Wiggins and W. Broughton being stood down in succession for a term, yet another rider will have to be found, for him. Teller ■(Chisholm) was the only two-year-old to gallop, running the last three furlongs "of a half-mile task in 38min 3-5 sec after" a slow beginning. ' ON THE PLOUGH. Red Bank (A. E. Stratton), who is looking very .well after his spell, was going better than Star Girl (Mellis), after running half a mile in 50 1-asec. Elicit (A. M'Donald) and Warzone wore together after running seven furlongs in 35 2-sscc. They -rau the first two in 27 sec, and the half-mile in 54sec. Both are showing improvement. Blacksmith (Metcalf) recorded a promising effort after breakfast by running six furlongs in lmin 19sec. This Arrowsmith gelding has been somewhat disappointing, but should make good. , Blue Paper (Metcalf) recorded the gallop of the morning when the filly ran her first three furlongs in 35 l-ssec, and then went on to complete her task in lmin 17 l-ssec. While she slowed up over the last furlong, she now appears to be sticking on better. GENERAL. t He Whanga (A. E. Stratton) and Callamavt (11. Gordon) were sent over three flights' of fences, the former jumping the | faster. Callamart, alone,' carried on to negotiate a further three fences, his jumping improving as he advanced. Spearopa (A. M'Donald) . has' proved somewhat uncertain in his fencing on occasions, .but he gave-an improved display on Saturday when seni\over a round and a half which included five fences. 111-fortune continues to attend Glen Rossie, for a few days ago he fata a staple into his foot. However, the injury .is not serious, and he was given pace work on one of the inner tracks on Saturday. , La Poupee arid Chief Cook were restricted to three-quarter'pace work. Both have built up in condition. I The full-brother to Princess Betty, Chief ; Line, was given barrier' practice in company with a Weathervane and an Acre two-year-old, and he got away well.
