BENZINE FIRES

THREE PEOPLE INJURED

While cleaning clothes with benzine in a washhouse attached to an eight-roomed house at si,' Miro street, Kilbirnie, just before 10 o'clock yesterday morning,^three people were burnt, one rather severely, as the result of a sudden fire, believed to have been started by a naked light. Mr. J. L. Allen, who owns and occupies the house, was burnt on the left ami while attempting to extinguish the fire, and Mrs. A. M. Allen had her face, neck, and left arm burned. Miss H. J. Hand was severely burned on the face, neck, hands, and arms. The fire brigade rendered first aid tq^ the injured people and extinguished th(T ■ fire without difficulty. The washhouse and its contents were damaged by fire and water.

A motor garage employee, Colin Barrnclough, was severely burned about the back on Friday, at Palmerston North, through the ignition of benzine with which he was cleaning some machinery. He had a can of benzine in his hands, and some of the contents were spilt on his clothes. The flames were extinguished by members of the staff, but he was so much injured that ho had to be taken to the hospital.
