MURCHISON S FUND BALANCE

STILL SOME LOCAL CLAIMS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) . NELSON, 11th February. The Nelson Earthquake Belief Committee has passed a resolution asking that the proposed handing over of the balance of the Murchison Belief Fund (£.5000) to the Hawkes Bay fund be held over by the Central, Committee in the meantime, pending further claims being forwarded. Both the District Public Trustee and the Commissioner of Crown, Lands stated that they knew of claims on the fund for .which they would recommend payment. The roll numbers at the Nelson City primary schools this year have shown a slight increase over last year's iigures. The number of pupils enrolled at the Central School this year is 520, against 498 last year; Auckland Point, 425, against 391; and Hampden Street, 410 against 380. The total has increased from 1269 to 1355. There are at present 20 children from Napier attending Nelson schools.
