POINTS FROM LETTERS
"British" refers to a report of a Japanese vessel bringing a cargo ot sulphur to New Zealand, and asks why the sulphur cannot be obtained from White Island. Or, if it is necessary _to import, why cannot the cargo be carried in British ships, thus lessening unemployment among seamen? "We are always reading or hearing the slogan 'Buy British goods.' Well, let us all be consistent and let our slogan be,' Employ British labour, buy British' goods from Britishers, and then we shall find that the unemployment problem will practically adjust itself. Now, sir, as an unemployed married man with five dependants, I would be very glad of a day's work. lam handy at most jobs. How am I to get a job under this scheme unles I happen to be at the labour bureau? We are told to stay away for a week. Should it not be the officer's job on getting a job by telephone to look iip the curds and pick out the married men with most dependents and give them first chances of the job? In this'way the married men would at least get a little relief, which was what the No. 2 scheme sSgaa intended feW-
