CANVASS AT LYALL BAY
The meeting convened by the Lyall Bay Progressive Association for the purpose of organising a campaign for the Earthquake Belief Fund was held in the Katea'Hall last evening. Mr. J. H. Burgoyne-Thomas presided, and there were over 70 residents present, including representatives from the local sports bodies and associations. Mr. E. Semple, M.P, was present, and spoke of what he had seen in .the earthquake area. Mr. B. C. Cull was appointed honorary secretary and' treasurer. It was decided to undertake a canvass of the district, and streets were allotted as follows: —Apu crescent, Mr. and Mrs. Cull; Freyberg and Toru streets, Mrs. B. Anderson; Queen's Drive, Mr. F. W. Boyd; Onepu road, Messrs. Burgoyne-Thomas, Ledger, and Kelly; Puru crescent, Mr. "W. F. Sherwood; Mamari street, Mr. O'Connor; Palm avenue, Mr. Phillips; Parade, Mrs. ■ Stewart; Tavistock and Sutherland roads, and Bua street, Mr. and Mrs; Gee; Bodrigo road, Mrs. Webb; Yule street, Mr. Cairns; Contts street, Mossrs. Bruce and Topp; Wha street Mrs. Ockanden; Cruickshanks and Cockburn streets, Mrs. H. Q. Bruce; Endeavour street, Mr. J. C. Biddell; Lorwick Terrace, Buckingham street, View, Boyal and Imperial terrace, Senior Boy Scouts; Bay road, Mrs. F. W. Boyd; Seatoun road, Mr. O'Donoghuo; Childer's terrace and Bourke street, Mrs. Semple; Boss street, Miss C. Pye and Mr. Stono; Mahora, Te Whiti, and Salck streets, Maranui Surf Club; Kilbirnie crescont and adjoining streets, Mr. C. D. Bridge; Endeavour street, Mr. M'Allum. Mesdames H. Q. Bruce and E. B. Topp will organise a children's fancy dress party for Friday week, and the Boy Scouts' Association, a "500" drive for next "Wednesday. Mr. Stewart, manager of the local picture theatre, will give a picture entertainment on a night to be arranged. It was arranged that all helpers would report at the Katea Hall on Wednesday evening next. Mr. B. J. H. Ockenden, who gave the hall free for the meeting, said ho would not charge for its use for any functions to assist the local effort. The meeting recorded high appreciation of the wonderful work dono by the naval men at Napier, also the valuable work done by the local police, flro brigades, and Post and Telegraph staff.
