£12,800 in stakes, for the., AJ\C, Autumn. Meeting. But for the- fact'- that entries 1' h'avc' closed for tke rStiOJeger Sires' Produce Stakes, aud Champagne Stakes, the amount-of- the reduction, would have been greater. The sum of £30,400 ,will b&- diftribujed^oxar -the four days. ' '' "■'" - ■'.' ■'*,*'-- Both the Sydney Cup and Dbncaster Handicap have been reduced by £1000. Whereas there were 20 races last year of £.1000- and upwards, this year there will be only eight of four-figure'dimen-sions. For jumping events the stakes have fallen as low as £400, which at the, current rate; of exchangeCißThot worth much more than ~£3OO in New Zealand. The joint owners of Phar Lap have a grievance against, the times,! for"'the weight-for-age events have come well under the axe, for they have been cut exactly in half, from ,£9500-to £.4750.
