JAPANESE SHIPS

STRANDED OFF COAST

POSITION OP ONE HOPELESS

(Received 11th February, 1 p.m.) FREMANTLE, This Day. The position of the stranded Japanese freighter Chofuku Maru off Point Coates is regarded as hopeless. ' The holds and engine-room are flooded, and waves are breaking over the vessel. The crew have been transferred to the other stranded vessel, Shunsei Maru, which is still fast forward, but has steam up and still under control, and may possibly be towed off the reef. Three other Japanese wheat ships are concentrating at the scene, and will decido on/ the best course to adopt.. Both stranded vessels have cargoes of wheat lifted at Adelaide, and were bound for Japan.
