LINDRUM BRILLIANT
OVERHAULING NEWMAN
SPECTACULAR BREAKS
LONDON, Oth February. I Lindrum's remarkable recovery in the billiards match continued, and he reduced his arrears to 2045 by brilliant play. Ho added only two to his unfinished break of 1794 when he missed an awkward screw cushion cannon, permitting Newman to register a beautiful break of 804. Lindrum, playing most carefully, and with faultless top-of-table play, played out in the afternoon with 1009. He continued in the- evening session without a flaw in his control of the top of the table, adding 300, after which he resorted to close cannon play with runs of 67, 82, and 94, passing 2000 in splendid style. He reverted to top-of-table methods and reached 2583 when he broke down over a thin cushion cannon. His last four innings realised 7065, compared with Newman's 107!). Newman miscued at 40, leaving Liud--1 ruin 32 unfinished. Scores: Newman, 17,701; Lindrum, 15,656.
