LORD BLEDISLOE'S ADMIRATION
' The following message has been received from His Excellency the Gover-nor-General (Lord Bledisloe): — After' our recent sojourn in the area most grievously stricken by the earthquake disaster, I desire in. view of what we have seen and heard to record our respectful, admiration ofj the splendid spirit of indomitable pluck, patient endurance, resourceful-. I ness, and Unflagging mutual helpfulness animating its whole'population, European and Maori alike, of both sexes and all ages, in face of death, bereavement, injury, and ' irretrievable materialises. It has made us feel "proud to. belong to the British race, happily co-operating .in this country, and in this crisis, with the noble Maori people. The finest traditions and qualities .of both have been put to the acid test .and magnificently maintained.
