TWO WOMEN ESCAPE
SOME CARS BURIED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) • NAPIER, This Day. It is stated: by a reliable witness that when the first earthquake started there were only two pedestrians between the corner point of Bluff Hill and Coote road. Both were women. They were carried by the debris from the hill into the sea. One waded ashore ' and the other got caught between two rocks, but was immediately released. The same .witness also, asserts, that not a single vehicle was visiblo on that stretch of road. This suggests that the fear that half a hundred peoplo were buried under the debris round the point on the road leading to the Port may be groundless, but it is believed that several bodies aro there.
