BOROUGH; .COUNCIL 'MEETING
A meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held last night. There were present; tho Mayor (Mr. D/M'Kenzio) and Councillors C. P.. Brockclbahk, '','■ J. C. ■Bui-'fls/ii. .W. Tdomath,' X Hogg', H. O. O'rsbovn, H. A. Ryder,'V. ii: Jaeobsoii, J. -AY. Longman, and V. A. Noble. ; ■ If was'decided to grauYthc Taita Cemetery Board' £100.. .... .': The Mayor and Councillor 11. A. llyder were appointed to represent tho council on tho Petone Fire ■ Board. Councillor Longman, who did not seek re-election, was thanked for his valuable service to the board during his term of office. On Councillor V. A. Noble's suggestion, tho inspector was , instructed to have school signposts erected near the new Free Kindergarten building. ■■■'; The engineer (Mr.- C. L. Jackson) reported that building permits to the value of £7890 were issued during the month. The borough inspector (Mr. W. B. Gough) reported that one case of scarlet fever and ouo of erysipelas were reported during the month. Motor-drivers' licences' to date for the current year were reported to be 1327, as against 1240 for the corresponding period last year. Annual licence fees collected during the month amounted to £130 17s 6d. / ' The Reserves Committee recommended that the council grant permission to the Petone Central Rifle Club to sub-let its range to the Petoue' Ladies' Miniature Rifle Club and the Hutt Valley Ladies' Miniature Rifle Club, respectively, the council reserving the right to review the annual rental' provided under the lease should it at a later date desire to do fto. The recommendation was approved.
