CRICKET MATCH RESULTS

Special memorial services in connection with the Hawkes Bay disaster wore held at all churches in Nelson yesterday, la the evening the Majestic Theatre ■was full for a united service conducted by the Bey. D. M'Cosh, M.A. There were also on the platform the Keys. P. N. Knight, E. Dudley, 1\ J. Sivyer, Pastor J. C. Macky, Adjutant Briddiclc, of the Salvation Army, the Mayor (Mr. W. J. Moffatt), and Councillors B. Watson, G. P. Russell, S. H. Moynagh,. W. M'Conchie, and 11.I1. W. Huggins. Mr. M'Cosh took, for his[ text '.'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help | in time of trouble" (Psalm.46). I A collection for earthquake relief purposes realised £50. The death-occurred on Saturday of Mr. W. 1\ Brett, Liangahua County Engineer, aged 29 years. The following teams have been selected to represent the Waiinea Cricket Association in matches for the Newman ' Shield and'"X" Cup:—Shield team: R. Papps (captain), A. Newman, M. Jenkins, M. R. Aden, R. Davies, A. Giblin, M. Hawkes, C. Shutfcloworth, J. Thorn, I-C. Lines, and L. Wells. "X".Cup team: A. Haycock, F, Palmer, G. Cole, L. Thomason, E. Hoult, L. Baigeut, T. Baigent, A. Bead, C. Win, I. Ila-wkcs, and 11. Kenyon. Waimea, the present holders of the Newman Shield, play Nelson City next Friday and Saturday. In the -Nolson • City Association championships, oil Saturday, Athletic scored 387 fruns in the first innings against College, who were playing their first match since recommencing school. E. Ralfe Scored 133, C. Kinzett 91, W. Vasta and W. Hull 55 each. Tile total was reached in three houis. F. Richards, the College slow spin bowler, took five wickets for ,78 runs. College lost • five wickets for 85' runs (Karsten 45 not out). "At Trafalgar Park, Wakatu made 120 in the first innings against Old Boys Colts, Langbein scoring 42, Muncaster 18, Marshall 23, and Stewart 21. Colts, in the first innings, passed Wakatu's score by 11 runs:—A. Nightingale 31, J. Simpson 19, M. Bryant 24, D. Fowler 27. Wakatu have 19 on without,'loss in the second innings. i .In the death- of Mrs. C. F. Exiling, of Upper Moutere; in her 99th year, there has passed the district's oldest pioneer. Born in' Bavaria in: April, 1832, she arrived in Nelson with her parents and other German immigrants in 1842. She ■was the last survivor of the pioneers •who came out iv the sailing ship St. Paul, and who established the Luthoran Church of St. Paul in the Upper Moutere. At the age of 18 she was married to the late Mr. Charles >. C. Selling, •who, like his brother, the late Mr. JTedor Kelling, was for many years a member of the Nelson Provincial Council. The Kellmg brothers acted as colonising agents in connection with the settling of Germans in the Waimea and Upper Motitcre, the three villages beingknniyii as'Ranzau, Sarau, and Neudorf. Shortly after her marriage the deceased.aiid her husband removed from IRanzau to itho Upper 'Moutere, where for many' a.long* year they lived their useful lives, contending successfully ivith their share of all the trials and hardships that fell to the lot, of the pioneer settlers. The late Mrs. Kelling, \vlio.could speak most interestingly of Nelson's early-.'days, was ill only a week^ succumbing, to an attack of tronchitis.
