PETONE CLUB

The P^tone Rifle Club fired a further competition counting for the club cham-' piouships, Flaws Cup, and third short range handicap series.-'at Trentbam oa Saturday, ranges 500 and 600 yards. The weather was fine, but Trentham was in. ~ ono of its most fitful moods, and for the most part it was necessary to make sev- ■ eral degrees of alteration between each shot in order to "keep in step" with the conditions- The shooting on Saturday completed the short range portion of this • season's championship series, and the final shoot over the 800 and 900 yard ranges will , take place next Saturday. Over 30 members have competed in all the championship matches; so that the rivalry in each grade has been particularly keen. On. Saturday the scoring at the 500. yard range was fair; but at the 600 yard distance the wind was so gusty and changeable that it' caused (several competitors to miss the target altogether, and low scoring resulted. R. H. Nicholl gave a glimpse o£ his true form when he topped the scoring at the 500 yard distance with a good 48, followed by J. Hunter and O. Pedersen with 48 each, and. F. Harris 45. At.600 yards N. E. Solomon registered top score with a good 47, with AY. H. Ballinger next 46, G. Old 45, F. Harris 44. The best aggregates off the guv wcro far short of the club standard; but were' in keeping with, the difficult, conditions. W: H. Ballinger 1 and R. H. Nicholl each totalled 90, N. F. Solomon and F. Harris 80, G. Old and O. Pedersen SS. W. H. Ballinger further increased his lead iv the club championship as a result of Saturday's shooting. The spoon winners for the day were R,' H. Nicholl and W. H. Ballinger in A; 1 Grade, W. Scambary in B Grade, and W. 1 Sapders in.«C Grade. Next Saturday the . shooting'^will be over the 800 and 900 yard ranges. . Scores:— i ' 500 600 . yds. yds. Hep.
