E, Webster, four times British oross-country, champion, who competed! at the Paris Olympiad; P. Light, who competed at the Amsterdam Olympiad, and J. W. JBenson—have been declared by the Amateur Athletic Association to be ineligible to .compete at amateur meetings owing to their journeying to meetings by means of a "fund!" arranged by the secretary of the Birchiield Harriers, which is a form of expenses the association debars. Bircl»iield, whose team repeatedly won the cross-country championship, has bean refused a permit and suspended for a fortnight. Webster and Light to-day, before tho decision, assisted Staffordshire to win the county crosschampiomship.

CHALLENGE TO MISS GLEITZE

SYDNEY, Bth February. Mrs. Katherina Nehua, the Maori, who was second in the recent endurance swim, has issued a challenge to Mercedes Gleitze, the winner of that contest:, for another endurance swim. Mrs. Nolnia's backers are prepared to flud ;£250 if Miss Gleitzc will find a similar amount, the only condition being that brandy shall be the only stimulant during the contest.
