FINE PERFORMANCES

AUCKLAND, Bth February.
The American athletes competed here yesterday. Simpson was in great form, winning the lOOyafds in 9 4-ssec (equal to, the New Zealand record), and the 220 yards iii 21 l-ssec (better than the New Zealand record by fifth of a secondV The mile race was a good contest, principal interest being taken in the scratch men, Kiser, Rose, and Savidan. ; The American set a fast pace, covering the first quarter in 57 3-ssec, and the half-mile in 2min 3sec- These early exertions left him without a finish! Dg effort, and, amid deatening applause, Savidan ran to the front entering the straight, and won by twelve yards from Cooper, a local man, off 25 yards. Kiser struggled on and just beat Kose. Koso was not fit, having had but three weeks' training. Savidan waa accidentally spiked 20 yards after the start, and tho race was re-run. Kiscr won the .-halt-mile from a weak ' Rothert-won the shot putt, discus, and javelin throw. In the first-named event he created a New Zealand record with a putt of 40 feet 5 inches.
