LYALL BAY CLUB
One of the most successful functions held by. the Lyall Bay Bowling Club of recent years was that of Ladies' Day, held on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and their wives, and visitors. The president, Mr. W. F. Sherwood, extended to all a hearty welcome on behalf of the club's directors and members. Eight rinks entered the contest, which consisted of three games of six heads. There were two ladies and two men to each rink. The ladies played lead and number three, and the men number two md skip. In the conditions of play, the nen played with the opposite hand to which they were accustomed •to bowl, no restrictions, of course, being placed on the fair sex. The games proceeded merrily, and there was plenty: of goodnatured, banter. Never were there so many short bowls and ditchers seen on the green, but some remarkably good shots were played by the -ladies, and when an idjournment was.made for afternoon tea, they were fully conversant with bowlers' language, and able to discuss the pros ana cons of the games like old veterans. The successful) rink was Miss W. Wolland, W. Collier, Mrs. W. F. Sherwood, and L. Naylor (s.). Prizes' were available only for the ladieSj\and in presenting Miss Wolland and Mrg. Sherwood each with a handsome' crystal vase, the president conveyed a hearty vote of thankß to the donor of the prizes, Mr. J. Creeke. He also announced that it was the. intention of the club to hold a similar function each year. A very pleasant event terminated, with hearty. cheers • for the winning rink.
