MATAI RETURNS
Tfie Government steamer Matai returned to Wellington this morning'af* ter making an unsuccessful search for] the yacht Windward. The Matai, after leaving Wellington on the afternoon of 30th January, steamed 100 miles out from the 'coast. Bounty; Island and the vicinity was also searched. The weather was described :by. an officer of the Matai as "vile" for most of the time. The visibility,^ however, was good. • The seas were so heavy, that, in the opinion of the officer,:» yacht would not have had much, chance of survival. . '•
