GOVERNOR-GENERAL
APPOINTMENT FOR CANADA
AUSTRALIAN PRECEDENT
(Received 7th February, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 6th February. The impending appointment of a Governor-General of Canada is raising an interesting discussion on the effect of the Australian precedent. It is admitted in Dominions Office circles that Australia revolutionised 'traditional practice when she transferred the responsibility for recommendations from the Dominions Office to the Dominions. The , Australian Press Association gathers that Canada, although undesiroils of departing from the traditional custom, has agreed to fall into step with1 Australia insofar as to nominate Lord Willingdon's successor, but is not prepared to emulate Australia's ample by pledging itself to restriction of nominations to Canadians. The Dominions Office is assured that "the best available man is good onough for Canada, whother Canadian or otherwise" ,~ ■
