In response to the India Congress Party's demand for the immediate ending of the ordinances whereby subversion of law and ordor is prevented, the Government of India conveyed an answer through Sir Fazli Hussein, who stated that tho Ordinances and other" "repressive" measures would bo discontinued as soon as the necessity for them disappeared. Tho Government as well as the public knew, ho added, that tho police lathi charges had caused misgiving,' but they woilld not tako place unless they were deliberately provoked.
