TRAFFIC CONGESTION

In order to relieve the grave congestion on the Wellington-. Napier road and its attendant '■ danger of accident, the Prime Minister appeals to' citizens to restrict motor car traffic to that bringing out relatives. The Napier Belief' Committee advises, that adequate facilities already exist for the removal of all desiring to ; leave Napier.. , Bail connection has now been established with Napier, and this facility has been placed at the disposal of all desiring to leave. The Napior and Hastings Committees, while appreciating the splendid public spirit manifested by all offering assistance in the provision of motor-cars, state that the influx of cars is causing serious 'inconvenience. Citizens are enjoined to refrain from using the road unless specifically requested by the Napier or Hastings Citizens' Belief Committee. The needs of safety of the road necessitate action being taken under the Transport, Bcgulations to restrict the traffic, and only '. authorised persons with specific ■ business will be permitted to travel by road. Traffic patrols are', being posted for the purpose of preventing: unauthorised persons and sight-seers from proceeding on the road.
