PERSONAL NOTES
Mr. G. Egorton Warburton has returned to Wellington from the South after a month's motor tour. The honour conferred upon the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) in being made a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order o£ St.'Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) was referred to in eulogistic, terms at the meeting of tho City Council on Thursday. Councillors joined in congratulating Mr. Troup upon the recognition of his signal services to the city, and mention was also made of the services rendered by Mrs. Troup as Mayoress. In returning thanks, Mr. Troup said that ho appreciated the honour very much v If a man had a true love for his city honours had no part in it, and he could say that the longer he lived in Wellington the more he.loved it v Anything ho had done for the city during his residence in it, nearly-fiftv years, had been a labour of love*. Mr. Troup expressed keen appreciation of the reference to Mrs. Troup. 1 The death occurred recently at a private hospital of Mr. John Young at the age* of C 2 years. The ;late Mr. Young was born in Edinburgh in' 1868, and arrived with his parents in New Zealand in 1874, and settled in Nelson. He was educated at Nelson Collego, after which he entered the service of. tho Government Life Insurance Department, from which he retired on superannuation in 1923. He took a keen interest in bowling, being a member of tho Island Bay Bowling Club. Ho will bo greatly missed by a large circle of friends by whom, he was hold in high esteem. lie is'survived-by a widow and son, Mr. E. J. Young", of tho New Zealand Insurance, Company, Wellington. Mr. Sydney Francis Hoben, who is well;known'in New Zealand as a concert; pianist and teacher, has resigned tho position of Master of Piano at St. Andrews College,. Christchuroh, to accept a similar position in Wellington at the new.St. Patrick's College, Silverstream. Before going to America, where he concert-toured for fourteen! years, Mr., Hoben directed tho music at Woodford House College, Hawkes Bay. Originally trained at1 tho Royal Conservatorium of Mus,io, Leipzig, Germany, Mr. Hoben lived in Sydney for a number of years, and was organist several churches there, as " well as musical critic of the "Sydney Mail." On' his return to New Zealand from America, he toured the Dominion in recital, before settling in ■ Christchurch in 1925. *Tn addition to his activities in that city as player and teachor, Mr. Hoben was also musical critic' of the '' Christchurch Times.''
