RELIEF MONEYS
GOVERNMENT'S PRACTICE
NO ADMLXISTRATIOX COSTS
The/Prime Minister (the Bight Hon. G. W; Forbes), in referring to a suggestion in: the Press, that the Government should .pay out in full all amounts giv^n for earthquake relief, gives an emphatic denial that, the practice has been to withhold a portion of funds subscribed for charitable relief to cover costs of administration and provide a sinking fund. The moneys subscribed in connection with the'l929 earthquake were preserved intact for relief purposes only. No costs of. Government administration were charged against them, and tlie services of all Civil servants engaged were given freely by tho Government. .The question of • a sinking funddoes not arise in the distribution of relief. ' /
Contributors to the present earth; quake fund can rest assured that the funds will be . used ■ entirely for ' the purpose for which they arc subscribed. The services Oi Government officers in distributing the funds will be given free, nnd any other costs of administration incurred by the Government will not be chargeable to the relief funds.'
