ATTITUDE OF COMPANIES
Details of the insurances in connection with the disaster are ,not yet available, and are not Hkely to be for some little time. It is understood that the insurance companies will only meet claims in cases in which buildings have been specially insured against earthquakes. It has been suggested that the companies might agree to meet claimants half-way, but it is stated that this is not likely owing to the many difficulties in the way.
