■the re-establishment of railway communication with Napier will help cocasiderably in speeding1' up the evacuation of the town. Among the ref ug&es which left by tho mail train were _ a number of cot cases, some of which were considered :to be serious. The train is only proceeding at slow spesed, losing time all the way 4 and it is thought that it probably will be two hours or more' late in arriving at Wellington. It is not expected to reach here, at least, until 6 o'clock. The Eskdalc line north of Napieir is not yet open, and it is considered that it probably will be some time before it is available for traffic.
