Apparently the officials in the devastated area have the situation well in hand, for according to a telegram neeeived by the Prime Minister (tbio Bight Hon. G. W. Forbes) from tb.e Minister of Defenco (tho Hon. J. (}. Cobbe) no further evacuation froim Napier will be necessary, and the foo d supplies and accommodation are reasonably ample. Mr. Cobbe's telegraim reads: — Not- necessary for any further evacuation from Napier; any alarmist reports can be discounted. Organisation committee f unetionin g well, now working in co-operation witli City Council. Pood supplies ample. Seasonable accommodation available for those now in Napie:r. A further telegram from Mr. Cobbe read: — Ample food supplies now in hanil. Please announce not now necessary forward any further supplies unleas directed later. The secretary of the Belief Commiitteo has sent the following telegram to the Prime Minister:— "Belief Committee requests Commijssioncr 'of Transport be advised that no further cars aro required for evacuation from Napier. Necessary work for. further cars will be done by rail. Please arrange that no cars be allowed come forward to this area unless engaged in transport of necessary supplies or by official order. Committee requests that local authorities en route be asked to co-operate as traffic restrictions^, are absolutely necessary to provent an influx of sight-seers." ■ Two Ministers1 of the Crown, tl*e Hon. E. A. Ransom and the Hon. ft. Masters, returned to Wellington to-day? leaving the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, and tho Hon. H. Atmore still in Napier. ■
