Attempting to close a Diet debate, Baron Shidehara, Foreign Minister, re-i marked that sufficient, proof had been given that the London Naval Treaty has not imperilled' Japan's. defence in t, Imperial ratification.' The Opposition became enraged, accusing Baron Shidehara of an : attempt unconstitutionally . and disloyally to place . on the Emperor .responsibility for -.a,. political' act. Several attempts were made at assault. : .- . - . , '.-■ The Diet, reassembling next day, soon developed: into a pandemonium. Opposition members rushedv, ..towards the Minister threatening the utmost violence. He was saved only by the determined resistance of the sergeants at arms.. ' The sitting was adjonrned, but the Minister was long unable to leavo the Chamber, '■■■'■. ' '
