CONTRIBUTIONS AND INCOME TAX
(To the Editor.) Sir,—lt has occurred to the writer that if all contributions to the funds to be raised were exempted from income tax, such funds would benefit, : nnd be increased to a very large extent. People who are willing to give and desirous of giving should not be called upon to pay income tax on the amount of their contributions, and many hesitate to subscribe or cannot afford- to give, when, especially in these depressed times, they know that they will next year be called upon to pay income tax on their charitable gifts when, perhaps, not being in a position to do so. I would commend the foregoing suggestion to the favourable consideration ,of the Government. The suggestion,, if adopted, need not, in any way, in the special terrible circumstances, create a precedent.—l am, etc., CONTRIBUTOR.
