From practically every quarter of the globe messages of sympathy with the Dominion generally and with the people of the afflicted areas iii particular, are arriving. Please convey our deepest sympathy to1 all those who have- suffered in the disaster, —-Albert.?' ; From the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia: "I offer to you and the people of New Zealand, and particularly. to the people of Napier.and Hastings and the relatives and friends of those who have 'suffered personally in the recent earthquake, the most profound, regret and sympathy of my wife and myself at the tragic disaster that has befallen them.—-Isaacs." : ' Prom the. Governor-General of the Union' of South Africa: ■ . '. "Desire toxexpress my very deep Tegret at news of disastrous earthquake and my sincere sympathy, with all sufferers." ' ■ I From the Governor of Now South Wales: ; - ! ' •' " ■ "The Government and people of New South Wales, wish to: tender, to Your Excellency and the peoplo of New| Zealand their deepest sympathy in the groat disaster which has so grievously afflicted the Napier district and has caused so large a loss of life. Will you please convey their sincere condolences to all those who have suffered by the earthquake. May I associate- myself most fully with these expressions of sympathy.—Philip Game, .Governor." From the Governor of South Australia: "My sincerest'sympathy to you and the people of New Zealand in the disastrous calamity that has occurred.— Buthven.'' From tho Governor of Victoria: "On behalf of the Government and people o"f Victoria I ask Your Excellency to accept our deepest sympathy in the disaster, which has overtaken your people." From the Governor of Fiji:. "Please convey to the New Zealand Government and to the sufferers in the disastrous earthquake at Napier deep sympathy of the Government and people of Fiji.—Governor.'' From the president and Council of the Boyal Agricultural Society of England : "President and Council at meeting of Boyal Agricultural Society of England to-day expressed deep regret at terrible calamity fallen, on your country and sympathy with agriculturalists and inhabitants.' '• From the. Bight Honourable Lord' Banfurly, a former Governor of Now Zealand: "Please* convey deepest sympathy Huwkes Bay." The following messages havo been received by the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. G. W. Forbes): — From the "Daily Mail," London.— "Wo are entirely at your service and will publish any message from you that you might think fit." Mr. F.orbes replied as follows: "The Dominion is deeply stirred by the disaster which has overtaken two of its most flourishing towns and surrounding district. It is not possible 1o shite the loss of life, but it is believed to be serious and the material damage very great. 'The extreme severity of the shock has been confined to a restricted area. New Zealanders, true to British courage, traditionally remain calm and resolute, and are determined to assist their sticken fellow citizens to the fullest extent, and to take tho earliest possible steps to repair the devastation inflicted by this catastrophe. Many expressions 'of sympathy and goodwill from beyond our shores have indeed touched us deeply."
