ACROSS THE TASMAN
YACHTSMAN'S VENTURE
OIMARA UNDER OVERHAUL
MELBOURNE, 28th December. Mr. Y. .T. Bennell, owner of the yacht Oimara, slates that nothing definite has been arranged concerning the nice across the Tasiiian. Slacey, of Christchurch, has withdrawn, but a "Wellington yachtsman has since been in communication witii him on the subject. Mr. Bennell has decided to sail over to New Zealand, leaving Melbourne for Auckland about 10th January. The crew will consist of a navigator, also Mr. Bennell and his son, and possibly two more. The Oimara is now being overhauled for the trip.
In October members of the yacht Oimara's crew stated that a trip to and from Sydney was made to provide that the Oimara was seaworthy and capable of undertaking a cruise to New Zealand in the proposed race across the Tasman Sea. "We could not find one challenger in Sydney," they said, "to race across. They all seemed to regard the trip as too dangerous."
