BUS FARES

(To the Editor.) Sir, —When tlio application from, the Railway Department to increase bus fares on the Hutt Valley service was being discussed by the licensing authority, Councillor It. M'Keen is reported as saying: "If the Department's application was granted, all the other bus services would take exactly the same step—the Bell Company was waiting for the verdict." The inference is that it is the intention of the Bell Bus Company, Ltd., to make application for an increase in the bus fares on the Ngaio-Khandallah service if the application is successful as regards the Hutt Valley service. Our reply to this insinuation is that we have at no time considered making an application to increase our fares, nor do we intend to do so whilst the present operating costs continue.—We arc, etc., BELL BUS CO., LTD. NORMAN BELL, Director.
