HOUGHTON BAY
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have been asked to write on bciialf of a few ratepayers of Houghton Bay. We cannot understand the policy o£ the City Council going in for reserves—open spaces in front of Town Hall, etc.—on the one hand and ruining a beautiful safe bathing beach on the other. Princes Bay, Houghton Bay, is the only sandy bay between Lyall and Island Bays—the only bay where the residents of Melrose and Houghton Bay can safely bathe; hundreds oE picnic parties are there in the summer fishing and bathing. The council have erected a large bin on the roadway, laid rails down" to the beach, put two teams of horses on, and for two years have been carting the sand away (it won't be long before it is ruined). All the sections in Houghton Bay are sold, and the residents will then have to walk to Lyall or Island Bay to bathe.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
