ON TAKANINI TRACK

INTERESTING WORK

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, 10th December. Conditions were perfect for training operations at Takanini this morning, when the grass track provided very fast going. In the Shade was to have gone nine, furlongs with Ti Tree to assist over the last mile, but there was some misunderstanding between the boys, In the Shade going alone to run the last sis furlongs in lmin 21 l-ssec. Iv the Shade moved freely, and J. T. Jamieson now intends to take him to Te Awamutu, where his chance in the Cup is strongly fancied. He is to be ridden by R. S. Bagby. Carrying light boys, Chief Joy and Havaspot were responsible for ' a very smart effort over six furlongs. They ran the first three in 35 2-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 14 3-ssec. As a result of the fast pace early, they were both tiring at the finish, where the improving Chief Joy just held a slight advantage. Chief Joy looks a good prospect for hack events ahead. Chief Jewel and Tea Chat ran their first two furlongs in 25sec, and completed five in lmin 2 2-ssec, Chief Jewel finishing about a length in front. Chief Jewel has done well since racing at Takapuna, and Tea' Chat is also in great heart. Tea Chat is not a very free worker, and does not. exert himself unduly unless kept up to his work. Ammon Ra ran a short five furlongs nicely, covering the last four in 53 2-ssee without being bustled. This youngster is in the boom, and he certainly gives the impression that he is good. All going well in the meantime, he is to contest the Great Northern Foal Stakes, and is not likely to lack support, in spite of the fact that he will be opposed to the best juveniles in that race. Smithfield, a three-year-old by Shambles from Sleepy Head, and Ciopton were on terms at the conclusion of a soundly-run six furlongs in lmin 15 3-osec. This was easily Smithfield's best track effort, and the time he recorded showed that the track was exceptionally fast. Refresher was slightly better than Treasury over five furlongs in lmin 3^ec. Refresher is again working well, and docs not show any signs of beiiifr troubled by the hock injury he sustained some weeks ago. Treasury, who was to have raced at New Plymouth, was found to be amiss after the gallop. The trouble is in the ligament, and he is to go into the paddock. On the plough, Vandyke completed steady work with two furlongs in 20see. Vandyke is to race at Te Awamutu, and will only have to leave the barrier correctly to be troublesome in the Orakau Hack Handicap. J. Williamson stated this morning that Corinax will not be a runner in the Aiickland Cup.
