BRILLIANT BLOOMS
SHOW AT UPPER HUTT
The Upper Hutt Flower Show was opened in the gymnasium, Park street, this afternoon by Colonel T. W. M'Donald, "M.P. It is one of the finest exhibitions yet staged by the Upper. Hutt Society. The entries are quite equal to those of any previous year, and the quality of the blooms is unexcelled. The home industries and cut flowers sections are well ahead of former years, and school exhibits are particularly good. The outstanding exhibitions/ ,are of Shirley and Oriental poppies, and delphiniums,- especially of the hollyhock-flowered variety. Of old-fashioned sweat u'illiam there are some exceedingly large and unique blooms. Upper Hutt is noted for its pansies, and the showing of these blooms would not be excelled anywhere in the Dominion. The decorative classes are particularly brilliant. The central attraction of the show is Mr. C. IF. Pilcher's exhibition of various flowers, in which magnificent blooms of hydrangeas, lupins,' and spiraea predominate, set off by Japanese, maples and copper beeches. Mr. Balcombe Brown has a unique tray of Princess Mary violas. The show will be continued to-night and to-morrow afternoon and evening.
