BRITISH MOTOR TRADE
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT
Mr. >S. <J. K. Smiillbone. secretary and director of, .Morris' Motors, Ltd., who has been associated with Sir William Morris since the inception of the Morris' companies, and who is paying his second visit to the Dominion, has just completed v two months' tour of tho North and South Islands. Morris Motors, Ltd., comprises a group >»f companies under the control of Sir William Morris, and is the largest purely English company of motor manufacturers in the world.' "It is pleasing to be able to state," said Mr. Smallbone, "that the British motor trade generally, and our own companies in particular,' have made tremendous forward strides in the export side of tho business. Sir William Morris, who was in New Zealand a couple of years ago, has travelled" practically every country in the world studying market conditions and road requirements. He will shortly go to Buenos Aires to the ' great exhibition, where Morris products will be conspicuously represented. . "We are now marketing cars and commercial vehicles in practically every civilised country, aud many foreign Governments have been extensive purchasers. We have highly skilled technical experts and factory, representatives everywhere studying conditions and furthering Morris interests preparatory to another great forward push in our trade. We are producing a complete range of ear models for overseas requirements, -and commercial vehicles in: capacities from scwt to 5 tons. "It is realised.that the overseas-Domin-ions'are "one'of'bur biggest, potential markets, and while I spent some time here two years ago, I have gone into conditions in. greater detail on this trip. ■ ■ "You are no doubt particularly interested in our activities in New Zealand, where we consider we have a great future. It is our intention to centralise the control of our products in New Zealand through one channel, and with the co-operation and help of our existing organisation this is gradually being done. I hope to be able to make an important statement in regard to this matter suwtly. Future shipments to the Dominion will be very much bigger, and wo hope, by unifying our control, to_ cut down costs and establish a more efficient system in relation to our. sales, service, and advertising policies." . : - Mr. Smallbone is leaving on 16th December by the Makura for Sydney, and he expects to be in Australia about six weeks before returning to England.
