AUCKLAND PROSPECTS
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, Oth December. Preparations for • the Auckland Racing Club's Summer. Meeting are now in full swing, and after the Waipa Racing Club's Sleeting, is disposed of at Te Awamutu on Saturday interest in the Elleralio carnival is bound to quicken. There was an abundance of work at Ellerslie this morning, but there is such a dearth of good horses at headquarters at present that the work does not help to shed much light on the problems that will have to be solved at the coming meeting. Tho only Auckland Cup candidates at headquarters are Corinax, Bennie, and Gay Cockade. On public form the only one of these who could be seriously considered in a Cup connection is Corinax, but he is not yet at his best, and his preparation is not being helped by the fact that his trainer is having difficulty in securing suitable galloping companions for him. It would not be surprising if Coi'inax'' misses the Auckland Cup and goes for some of the shorter races, although J. Williamson may not make any definite decision regarding his programme until near the day. . Out at Takanini, J. T. Jamieson has In the Shade and Sargon working soundly, although "both are slightly Bore at present. In the Shade's trouble is due to a corn, which should yield quickly' to treatment, but it has made his trainer, doubtful about starting him in the Te Awamutu Cup on Saturday. Jamieson would like to give In the Shade the race, and will defer a decision until later in the week. Sargon's trouble appears to be muscular, and he works freely enough when he warms up. The three-year-old gives the impression that he is a sound stayer, and all going well with his preparation, it is quite on the cards that he will take his place in the Auckland Cup field. Galloping this morning at Ellerslie was carried out on the course proper, where the flags were out about thirty feet, and also on the No. 1 grass, both tracks being in perfect order. On the course proper, Tetrachate_ and Royal Tea ran the.best half-mile in 50 4-ssec, both hitting out well. Eager Rose, who is to contest the Te Awamutu Cup, was associated with P_atutahi in a working gallop over a mile in lmin Slsec. the last live furlongs taking lmin 10 2-ssec. Eager Rose is in capital trim, and can be expected to make a solid showing on the No. 1 grass. . , Corinax galloped seven furlongs m lmin 32 4-ssee, doing it well. He is coming on with every gallop, but has had only one race this season, and still looks slightly abovo himself. ~. Llanore and Gay Idea wore responsible for the best half-mile in 49 2-ssec. Llanore Went particularly well, and should do J. Chisholm some service at the, country meetings after the holidays. _ Riding engagements announced in connection with the Auckland Cup.and Railway Handicap are,as follows:" H. Wiggms (My Own, Gesture), R: M'Rae, (Gay Cockade), H. Gray, (Star Stranger and Hunting Day), A. G. Parsons (Royal Tea) E. Ludlow (Count Cavour and Great- Star), R. M'Tavish (Chromadyne). ■■■- ■ ■ ■ ■ ■■■■■ Southern trainers who have-booked accommodation at Ellerslie for the meeting are J. H, Jefferd,. G. Jonos, W. Hawthorne, A. M'Aulay, W.;P. Moroney, P. V Mason, L.. Wilson. F. D. Jones, T. H. Gillett, and W. H. Dwyer. . ,;
