RACING IN DIVISIONS

SAFETY-NUMBER MARGINS

LATEST TABLE FOR DOMINION

In view of the fact that divisions arc being foiifid necessary in so many races at present, although the safety-number limits were considerably extended in September, 1929, it may be interesting to uotc what are the maximum numbers that may be started, except possibly in exceptional eases, at the main distances on the principal courses in the Dominion, and the following table is published to correct misapprehension that exists in the matter owing to the occasional publication of a table that has been out of use for over twelve months. The table is:—

In the Case of the Feilding, Foxton, Hawkes Bay, Levin, Manawatn, Marlborough, Marton, Rangitikei, Rotorua, Thames, Waikato Hunt, Wairarapa, Westland, and Woodville Clubs, the distances in some instances are not exactly those named, the distance nearest to the actually correct one being given to complete the record. . For example, at Manawatu there is no mile, and the distance referred to under the mile column is one. mile and 110 yards. The safety-number margins in the above table are as, they were at the end of-last ■week, and wherever at present fields exceed the figure named the race must, except possibly under exceptional circumstances, be run in divisions.
