.On Saturday afternoon at Taita the members of the Hutt Valley Gun Club fired the iirst stage of the club championship series, 21 birds off the 12yds mark. The weather conditions were perfect for trap-shooting, and some really brilliant shooting was witnessed during the afternoon's competitions. In the championship series, four competitors—L. A. ■■Caldwell, H."IT. Morris, E. Banish, and A. Scott—all shot the possible of 21 birds, and had to shoofc off for the trophy. The trophy -vras won by 11. H. Morris, who broke 12 extra birds, E. Banish being second with ,11 extra birds, and L. A. CaldTrell third with ten extra birds. The second/match was a 15-bird one for a club trophy*;1 and possibles were scored by A. L, Cook, C. Moore, H. H. Morris, and E. Banish. The shoot-off proved to be the most exciting yet seen on the club's grounds1, and twenty-five extra birds were . .necessary before E. The final match of the afternoon was _ a double rise sweepstakes ■of ten birds. and again a keen finish resulted in four competitors tieing for first place with nine birds apiece, and dividing the prize money. • As a result of the first two matches a new club record was established by H.
