PIANOFORTE RECITAL
Many excellent examples oE scholarly musicianship were given at the annual pianoforte recital by Mrs. Ethel Mackay's pupils at the Concert Chamber on Saturday night. All the performers showed technique adequate to the pieces they played—and some of the numbers were bristling with difficulties—but they also displayed poise and musical insight. From Mrs. Mackay's ■ pupils "one has expected much in recent. years, and no one could have been disappointed at this year's recitaj. There were abundant evidences of careful and thorough training, aud every item of the long programme, which included items by pupils of Miss Violet Lamacroft and Messrs. W. M'Lean, S. M'Lean, and K. Thurkettle, was. enthusiastically received by a large audience. The performers included: Duet, "Pantomime," op. 1G (Melan-Gueroult), played by Misses Winnie Cooley and Nctta Arthero; trio, "Chanson" (Gurlitt), by Misses Pan Goetzlof, Sylvia Young, and Jean Collins; "L'Alouette" (Glinka-Bala-kirew), by Miss Ena Conner; "Chant sans Paroles" (Tchaikovsky), by Misses Jean Roberts and Lorna Gandy, and Masters Brian Scoullar and Freddie Tonks; "Loreley" (Seeling), by Miss Rona Field; "Waltz" (Kirchner), by Misses Dawn Bass and Phyllis Oliver; "Melodic" (Rachmaninoff), by Miss Gwen Taylor; "Barcarolle" (Tchaikovsky), by Miss Irina Burge; "A 7alse Chromatique" (Leschetizky), by Miss Daphne Staff; "Waltz"' (Levitski), by Miss. Jean Fuller; "Romance" (Arensky), by Misses Ivy Simpson and Joan Rogers; "Cuckoo" (Daymond), aud "AVee Wren" (Longmire), by Miss Patricia Snow; "March" (Bach), by Misses Dawn Croxton, Edna Holhyay, Mary Bryson, and Melvyn Aston; "FireHies" (Bridges), by Miss Kathleen Todd; First Movement of a Trio by Chausson, by Messrs. Miss Moana Goodwill sang most pleasingly.
